Biographical Sketch

Raj Echambadi is the Alan J. and Joyce D. Baltz Professor in the College of Business at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He also serves as the Senior Associate Dean for Strategic Innovation for the College of Business. Raj's major research interests focus on strategic entrepreneurship and innovation, with a focus on how firms explore new opportunities and subsequently exploit these innovations for long-run competitive advantage. Raj’s research articles have appeared in some of the best business and statistics journals including Management Science, Marketing Science, Journal of Marketing, Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Journal, and Multivariate Behavioral Research among others; his paper on employee entrepreneurship in the disk drive industry won the Best Paper award for articles published in the Academy of Management Journal in 2004. He has obtained several research grants from various entities including the Kauffman Foundation to study technology entrepreneurship and innovation issues. Raj has taught a wide range of courses at the undergraduate, MBA, Executive MBA and Ph.D. levels and has won numerous accolades for his teaching accomplishments. Raj has a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from India and a Ph.D. from the University of Houston.
