Clinical Professor of Finance
Mark Vonnahme, Fox Family Distinguished Clinical Professor, joined the Department of Finance faculty in the Spring 2004 teaching property liability insurance to both undergraduate and graduate students.In addition, he has developed course offerings for graduate students in Risk Management and Insurance and Enterprise Risk Management. His teaching interests also include Corporate Finance, Leadership and Corporate Governance. In August 2010 he was appointed as the director of th MS in Finance Program.
Vonnahme spent three years at Arch Insurance Group as Executive Vice President of the Surety Business Unit and also was the lead executive for Enterprise Risk Management for Arch's US and Canadian Insurance operations. Vonnahme spent over thirty years in the property casualty and surety industries retiring in September 2003 as the President and CEO of CNA Surety Corporation, the largest publicly traded surety organization in the United States. Mr. Vonnahme started his career with CNA in the surety business in 1972 after obtaining a graduate degree in finance from the University of Illinois. He is a certified public accountant, a member of the Illinois CPA Society, and a past chair of the organization’s Construction Accounting Committee. He has served on the board of directors of CNA Surety Corporation, and DeMontfort Insurance PLC, a UK based insurance and bonding company. Vonnahme is a past chairman of the board of directors of The Surety Association of America, and has served on the American Insurance Association’s Fidelity and Surety Committee as well as on the Surety Information Office Policy Board.
Mr. Vonnahme has served as Co-Director of the Office of Risk Managment and Insurance Research in the College of Business as well as President of the Board of Trustees of the Surety Foundation, a non-profit educational foundation established by The Surety Assocaiation of America.He has been a member of the The Actuarial Foundation Board of Trustees and was appointed as the first non-FCAS member of the Board of Directors of the Casualty Actuarial Society.
