Josef Lakonishok

Biographical Sketch

Josef Lakonishok is the Karnes Professor of Finance at the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign, a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), and a principal at LSV Asset Management. LSV Asset Management, headquartered in Chicago, was founded in November 1994 by Andrei Shleifer of Harvard University, Robert Vishny of the University of Chicago, and Josef Lakonishok. Before coming to Illinois, Professor Lakonishok was a professor of finance at the Johnson Graduate School of Management, Cornell University and on the Faculty of Management at Tel-Aviv University. He received his Ph.D. in finance from Cornell University. Josef Lakonishok specializes in empirical investment research. His papers cover a broad range of investment topics such as performance evaluation, analysts’ forecasts, share repurchases, and fundamental and momentum-based trading strategies. He is probably best known for his work on value investing. In addition to his research, he has extensive experience with pension funds and other financial institutions throughout the United States and Europe. Dr. Lakonishok is one of the top contributors to major finance journals. He has served and is serving as an associate editor of many leading journals in financial economics, including the Journal of Finance. His work has received worldwide attention and has been the subject of numerous articles in the financial press. He was featured in the book, Investment Titans, published by McGraw-Hill. He is a frequent speaker at both academic and investment management conferences.
