College of Business alumna Sara A. Greenstein (’96) has been named vice president/associate chancellor for alumni relations at the Urbana campus of the University of Illinois and the University of Illinois Alumni Association. The appointment is effective Sept. 1, pending approval by the U of I Board of Trustees.
She previously held the position of senior vice president, chief commercial officer for Underwriters Laboratories Inc. in Northbrook, Ill. In that role, she presided over the global sales and business development activities of the company. She also had responsibilities for branding, communications, marketing and strategic planning.
Greenstein will report jointly to Richard Herman, the chancellor of the Urbana campus, and to Loren R. Taylor, the president of the UI Alumni Association, serving as the campus’s chief alumni relations officer.
“Sara is bright, energetic and creative,” Herman said. “Her international experience with UL has given her a unique perspective on alumni relations that will help us build connections among members of the Illinois family all around the globe.”
Greenstein has a degree in business administration from the University of Illinois and an MBA from the University of Michigan, where she has also assisted that alumni association in its strategic planning initiatives.
“I am delighted Sara Greenstein will be leading our advancement efforts in alumni relations at Illinois,” Taylor said. “With her extensive experience in strategic planning and executive management in both the non-profit and private sectors, she will make valuable contributions in coordinating outreach efforts and building strong relationships between the campus and its alumni.”
In November 2007, Greenstein was selected by Crain’s Chicago Business Publication as one of the “Top 40 under 40 executives.” She recently moved to Champaign with her husband and fellow UI graduate, Jason, and their two children.
