Why Illinois

In today’s business environment, tax professionals are expected to know and do more than ever before. The business community expects successful tax professionals to have knowledge and capabilities beyond that of a tax-technician only. The ILLINOIS MS Tax Program’s innovative curriculum is driven by this need. Integrated into the rigorous technical tax courses are concepts that examine tax in a strategic business context, workshops that focus on professional skills, and lyceums that engage tax leaders. This approach enables our students to broaden their business perspectives, develop professional skills that will differentiate them from their peers, and expand their professional networks to include well-known national tax leaders – all of which combine to make them more “complete” tax professionals.

The ILLINOIS MS Tax Program, ranked among the top three MS Tax programs in the U.S., is part of the College of Business’ Accountancy Department and conducts its classes at the Illini Center in Downtown Chicago. It is a one-year, executive-style program designed for working tax professionals and taught by leading tax practitioners in the Chicago area as well as, top ILLINOIS faculty from the Urbana-Champaign campus. The small cohort of approximately 30 students fosters teamwork and group activities similar to those in the business world and provides an opportunity to network with other high performers in the profession. The immersive nature of the program develops a close professional network between the students, as well as with the faculty, who become career-long mentors to the students.

Our unique curriculum is built on principles of mutual trust, respect, personal enrichment, the free flow of ideas, constant improvement, and teamwork. We demand the highest performance of those who join our legacy and no less of ourselves.
