ILLINOIS BUSINESS JOB SHADOW PROGRAM
Job shadow opportunities, aka company visits, are a great way for students to learn about various career paths and to see companies “in action.” Job shadows allow students, especially freshmen and sophomores, to start thinking about the skills and extra-curricular involvement necessary to be successful in their field of interest. We highly encourage your organization to host students for a day over the Thanksgiving break, winter break, near spring break, start of summer break, etc (whatever time works best for your organization and students are on break).
Effective Fall 2017, the Illinois Business Job Shadow program will be completely company managed (there is no longer a ranking and matching process in the system). You can post the opportunity in Handshake, accept applications, and communicate directly with the students you wish to invite to your office.
- Post as a job in Handshake
- Include “Job Shadow” in the title. You may also wish to include the job function and location in the title. Example: Accounting Job Shadow (Chicago); Investment Banking Job Shadow (New York City)
- Select job type =experiential learning -> employment time = part-time -> duration = temporary/seasonal -> enter date range of job shadow
- Include as many majors from our campus as you would like…this is career exploration after all!
Please let our Recruiting Team know if you have any questions!

Look under “Career Exploration Opportunity” on Handshake for opportunities similar to the BCS Job Shadow Program. These may be called “Leadership Program”, “Job Shadow”, or another title, and may be offered at any time of the year. Some are multi-day programs. Typically such programs are intended for specific target audiences. These opportunities are posted on the Handshake Job Board with the “Position Type” label “Career Exploration Opportunity.” If you are eligible and interested, follow instructions to submit your résumé for consideration. Remember to check Handshake for an invitation to schedule an interview, and check the email account listed on your résumé as the recruiter may contact you directly
