Grading System and Grade Reports
Grades authorized for all UIU C colleges
Excellent (A+, A, A-); Good (B+, B, B-); Fair (C+, C, C-); Poor (D+, D, D-) (lowest passing grades); Failure (F) (not acceptable for degree credit), including courses dropped for academic irregularities; Absent from the Final Examination without an acceptable excuse (ABS) (counts as a failure and not acceptable for degree credit). If a student is absent from a Final Examination and it is clear that taking that examination could not have resulted in a passing grade for the course, a grade of "F" may be given instead of ABS.
|F Failure (including courses dropped for academic irregularities)||0.00|
ABS: Absent from Final Examination counts as failure.
Grades of S, U, CR, NC, and PS are reported on the official University transcript, but are not included in the Grade Point Averages (GPA) since Honor Points are not assigned to these letter grades.
Final grades and Grade Reports are available on UIUC Self-Service and the Office of Admissions and Records Website where additional grading information can be found.
Calculating GPA: http://registrar.illinois.edu/grades/GPA.html.
The Incomplete grade is intended to provide a student a specified time extension to finish a paper, final examination, or other relatively minor project or task that would occur at the end of the semester. It is not intended to address a significant part of a semester's coursework.
A grade of "incomplete" not removed by the end of the first eight weeks of instruction in the next semester in which the student is enrolled on the Urbana-Champaign campus becomes the grade of "F". In exceptional cases; a student who, because of absence for active military service, physical disability, or other sufficient cause and is unable to comply with the rule by removing the I grade within the specified time may be granted a limited extension by the Dean of his or her college.
Students seeking to receive an incomplete in a course must contact the Office of Undergraduate Affairs at (217) 333-2740.
For more information regarding grading policies, please consult the UIUC Student Code. Article 3, Part 1, §3.
Leave of Absence
If the student has been absent for more than one semester (not including Summer Sessions) the student must contact a Records Officer in the Office of Undergraduate Affairs at 217-333-2740 prior to the early registration for the semester the student intends to return in order to reactivate their account and be assigned a registration date and time.
