Freshman Friday
Freshman Orientation
Freshman year
All freshmen must attend a Freshman Friday with Dean Mullins.
Freshman Friday sessions cover:
- Which courses to take
- Course combinations
- Study abroad
- Minors
- Double degrees versus double majors
- General education requirements
- Summer internships
- Summer school
- What to do if you aren't doing so well in school
- Any questions you have
After attending a Freshman Friday with Dean Mullins, you'll have access to one-on-one advising appointments with him. Freshman Fridays continue into the second semester; however, it's recommended that you attend a session during the fall semester. Along with Dean Mullins, you'll also have access to a group of Peer Advisors who can help answer a wide variety of questions, including registration and scheduling questions. Peer Advisors are available for walk-in appointments throughout the week.
Peer advising hours
Monday through Friday, 10am–12pm and 2pm–4pm
If you can't participate in a Freshman Friday, call our office (217-333-2740) to arrange a small group meeting during another day of the week.
Sophomore year
Sophomore students who have not declared a major will be advised by Teresa D'Urso, Director of Advising (tdurso@illinois.edu), and her exceptional team of Peer Advisors. Arrange an appointment with Teresa D'Urso here.
After choosing a major
Students are assigned an advisor based on their major. If a student changes their major, their advisor will change accordingly.
