Intercollege Transfers - APPLY HERE
You need a competitive streak, a healthy dose of campus involvement, and some chutzpah to get into the College of Business through the Intercollege Transfer Process. Got what it takes? Good, because it's competitive due to space limitations. In fact, in 2011–2012, 359 students applied; 170 were admitted.
That said, your application is reviewed on a holistic basis, using the same criteria used to evaluate freshman applicants. We'll evaluate your personal and professional essays, demonstrated leadership (at UIUC and high school), academic performance at UIUC, completion of required courses, and campus involvement (majorly important).
How to apply.
The ICT application will be available online during application dates only. When you apply, use a PC (not a Macintosh), and don't submit resumes in pdf format. Each essay has a 4,000-character limit—including spaces and punctuation.
Important dates.
You can apply *May 7–25, 2013. You'll be notified of admission on June 14, 2013.
This is the only time freshmen who started at UIUC in Fall 2012 can apply to transfer to the College of Business.
*This date has been changed from May 6 - 24 to May 7 - 25 due to a necessary software update.
Upcoming Information Sessions
Meetings typically last between 30 and 45 minutes. It is NOT mandatory to attend an Information Session to be eligible for transfer.
Currently, there are no informational sessions scheduled. Please check back for additional dates and times.
Requirements.
Admission
- ICT students are admitted to the College only once during the academic year. Once you're accepted, you'll join the College of Business during the fall semester after your freshman year.
Credit hours
- You must have completed at least 24 credit hours and 2 full-time semesters at UIUC.
- Only credit hours earned to meet the one-year residency requirement will be counted. Advanced Placement, IB, and proficiency credits won't be counted (but we'll accept AP credit that covers course requirements).
Courses
All of these must be completed before applying.
- ECON 102
- ECON 103
- Math Requirement (choose one of the following):
- MATH 234 and MATH 124 (or 125)
- MATH 220 (or 221) and MATH 124 (or 125)
- MATH 220 (or 221) and MATH 231
If you place into a math lower than MATH 125, you'll be evaluated on the first two math courses before applying to the College of Business.
Spring Course Registration
Aside from the required courses for transfer listed above, it is recommended that your spring schedule of courses reflects the requirements of your current major. It is not necessary for you to enroll in other Business Core courses during the spring of your freshman year. It will not increase the likelihood of you being admitted to the College of Business. Please consult with your current major advisor to determine your spring schedule of courses.
Course substitutions
These alternative classes may meet the course pattern for admission.
- ACE 100 will substitute for ECON 102
- ECON 101 satisfies both ECON 102 and 103 requirements
- MATH 220 (or any higher-level calculus class) will substitute for MATH 234
GPA
While there's no minimum GPA required for applying, like we said, it's competitive and based on the applicant pool.
Cumulative GPA for ICT students admitted for Fall 2012
- 3.81–4.0: 42.4%
- 3.61–3.8: 42.9%
- 3.41–3.6: 8.8%
