of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Sam Zell,

and Avijit Ghosh, dean of the College of Business, pose

on January 30, 2006.
The College of Business welcomed Sam Zell, noted entrepreneur,
to campus this week. Mr. Zell offered an audience of more
than 400 students, faculty, staff, and community leaders
his reflections on why he is so successful.
From "unjustifiable self confidence" to "walking
right when everyone else is walking left," Sam Zell
challenges conventional wisdom by looking at things differently,
by seeing opportunity and solutions where others don't.
His motivation is to test his limits, to learn how good
he can be.
And that is the type of learning environment we offer students
in the College of Business -- an environment where they
can test their limits, think differently and come up with
creative solutions to challenges, and craft ways to sell
others on their ideas.
Like Sam Zell, College of Business students are learning
to maximize their talents.
Sincerely,
Avijit Ghosh
Dean
