Carrot Capital congratulations
Three interdisciplinary teams from the University of Illinois leave for the Big Apple this weekend to compete in the Carrot Capital Business Plan Challenge. Each team consisted of a business owner or entrepreneur and several students who collaborated to develop a business plan.

Simon Symposium held
The Julian Simon Memorial Dedication Symposium held in late April featured speakers from across the nation and a dedication ceremony that honored Simon, a renowned economist. The dedication acknowledged creation of the Julian Simon Memorial Faculty Scholar Endowment that will support a junior faculty member in the college.

Higher education is a good investment - but how do you pay for it?
Many students work long hours to finance their education. The recently released PIRG report on higher education costs makes a case for increased scholarship support. "At What Cost? The Price That Working Students Pay For A College Education" was prepared by The State PIRGs' Higher Education Project and is available online. You can help provide scholarship support for CBA students by using the secure site below.

Alumni gather for panel discussion
MBA Alumni Association members and other Chicago-area graduates met at the University Club recently to hear a panel discuss the impact of financial reporting on investor confidence. See if any of your former classmates attended.

Energy CEO visits college
The Chairman and CEO of Ocean Energy visited the college earlier this month as an Executive-in-Residence. In an interview, he reveals that negotiating mergers is in his blood.

College magazine being developed

If you couldn't make the 42nd Annual Spring Luncheon held in early April, you can experience some of the event online.

Kent Monroe, honored by the AMA.Kent Monroe honored
Central Illinois Chapter of the American Marketing Association awarded the Marketing Pioneer Award to Kent Monroe earlier this month. Monroe is a long-time faculty member in the Department of Business Administration.

Burkhardt scholarship awarded to junior in finance
Irina Zilbergleyt was awarded the 2002 Jon W. Burkhardt award recently. The scholarship honors Jon W. Burkhardt, who was an annual guest lecturer in Finance 260.

CBA convocation and university commencement 2002
The college hosts convocation on May 11 from 1:30 p.m. through 3:30 p.m. at the Assembly Hall. Mary Kay Haben, a 1977 graduate of the college, is the speaker for the first college convocation to be held in the Assembly Hall.
The University of Illinois commencement is on Sunday, May 12, in the Assembly Hall at 2 p.m. Maya Angelou, poet and novelist, is scheduled to present the Commencement address. Contact the Office of Undergraduate Affairs (217-333-2740) for more information.

May 2002 Round Table to feature Dean Ghosh
The May Round Table will feature a presentation by Avijit Ghosh, CBA dean, on his agenda for excellence. Focusing on business education at Illinois, Ghosh will be speaking at the University Club, 76 East Monroe Street, Chicago (change of location) from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Space is limited.
