James Gentry, professor of finance and IBE Distinguished Professor of Finance, was recently selected as the recipient of the first Midwest Finance Association Life-Time Achievement Award. Established this year, the Life-Time Achievement award recognizes members who have made significant contributions to the association. Elizabeth Cooperman, MFA president and associate professor of finance at the University of Colorado at Denver, notified Gentry of the honor. The MFA Board also voted unanimously to rename the CFO Breakfast, held at the MFA annual meeting, to the James Gentry Distinguished Financial Executive Presentation.
In 2001, Gentry was named a University of Illinois Distinguished Teacher/Scholar. He is well known for his case study research and his teaching. He retires from the faculty at the end of this academic year.
The Midwest Finance Association (www.cob.niu.edu/fina/mfa/midwest.html) works to develop and disseminate information on the finance discipline to its members, who are academicians and practitioners. MFA fulfills it mission through annual professional meetings and sponsorship of the Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance.
