College of Business will offer executive education on Coursera platform
Coursera and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign announced two business specializations, one in digital marketing and one in finances and operations. These targeted sequences of courses will be offered as massive, open online courses (MOOCs); completion of each course in the specialization will cost only $49.
“This initial offering positions the College of Business at the forefront of 21st century executive education,” said Larry DeBrock, dean of the College of Business. “The two specializations best fit our capabilities while showcasing our star faculty, demonstrating our global visibility, and reflecting our College’s pedagogical outcomes—helping managers and employees become bold, innovative leaders.”
Demand for previous Illinois business MOOCs has been incredible. A course on subsistence marketplaces, for example, enrolled over 16,500 learners, and will be offered for the third time in January 2015.
The digital marketing specialization—a collaboration with the College of Media—includes three courses in digital marketing, marketing analytics, and marketing channels. The finances and operations specialization includes three courses in managerial accounting, financial evaluation and strategy, and operations management and process improvement. Each specialization requires a capstone project, allowing learners to build in-demand skills they can apply immediately.
“This effort is an opportunity to attract a wider audience to our executive education initiative, and serves as a testament to our strategic plan, our faculty and staff, and our offerings here at the brick-and-mortar home of the College of Business,” said DeBrock.
