Edwin J. DeMaris '54 PhD Contributed Significantly to Accountancy
Edwin Joe DeMaris ’54 PhD (Accountancy) passed away at age 90 on Friday, January 15, 2010 in Edmonds, Washington.
DeMaris was a professor at ILLINOIS from 1955 to 1975, serving as Head of the Department of Accounting (1965-1974) and as Director of Graduate Studies in the College. He was appointed as the Head by Dean Paul Green to lead a key expansion period for the department. During his time at ILLINOIS DeMaris participated in several international efforts to improve accountancy including a U.S. exchange with the former Soviet Republic. DeMaris worked alongside other influential accountancy faculty members like Kenneth Perry, Arthur Wyatt, Dick Ziegler, Vernon Zimmerman, and many others to profoundly influence accountancy education around the world.
The Department of Accountancy, its faculty and graduates, and the College of Business at ILLINOIS have much to be thankful for in DeMaris’ contributions.
