Alumni Honored By College of Business Alumni Association
Each year the College of Business Alumni Association makes two
awards to graduate of the College. The Distinguished Alumnus
Award is given to a graduate in recognition of outstanding career
achievement. The Appreciation Award is made to a graduate
who has performed outstanding service to the College and the College
of Business Alumni Association. The 2004 award winners are:
Distinguished Alumnus Award: Avy Stein
Avy
Stein graduated Bronze Tablet in 1977 with a degree in accountancy
and received his CPA the same year. Also a graduate of Harvard Law
School, Stein is a principle in Willis
Stein & Partners, a private equity investment firm that
owns companies in a broad range of industries.
Active in civic affairs, Stein is a member of Dean Avijit Ghosh's
Board of Overseers, has presented at College RoundTables, is a guest
lecturer, and was convocation speaker at the 2003 MBA graduation.
In 2000, he established the Stein Scholarship for Excellence in
the College.
Appreciation Award: Jeff Margolis
In
1997, Jeff Margolis founded The
TriZetto Group, today a $300 million publicly traded company.
The company offers a broad portfolio of health care information
products and services and has offices in several states, including
Illinois. Margolis graduated with high honors from the College of
Business in 1984, where he was in business administration with a
concentration in management information systems. He also took courses
in accountancy and passed the CPA exam at 20.
He has served the College as an Executive-in-Residence and as a
Cozad Lecturer in Entrepreneurism.
Margolis was the keynote
speaker at the Spring Luncheon.
