May 13, 2003 College Faculty and Staff HonoredAt a brief ceremony on April 30, Dean Avijit Ghosh acknowledge the College's faculty and staff who received departmental, college, campus, or alumni association awards this spring. College staff with significant years of service to the College of Business were also feted. Teresa Petry Dorsey was named Outstanding Academic Professional staff member and Carol Nelson was honored with the Outstanding Staff award. Dorsey, who has worked in the College since 1987 and in the Study Abroad Office since 1999, was cited for her dedication and commitment. Nelson, who has worked in several capacities in her 30-year career in the College, was called "a true professional" in her nomination papers. Two Business faculty were recipients of the Dean's Award for Excellence in Research. The Senior Faculty winner was Brian Wansink, a professor in Business Administration who researches the impact of marketing activities on consumption. The Junior Faculty recipient was George Deltas, an assistant professor of economics who is currently working on an auction design and a study of bidding behavior. Elisabeth Oltheten, assistant professor of finance, recently earned the Campus Award for Innovation in Undergraduate Instruction Using Educational Technologies. Oltheten, who has been with the College for ten years, developed a stock-market simulation program that is used in the College and in area high schools. Werner Baer, a member of the Economics faculty, was the recipient of the 2002 Campus Distinguished Faculty Award for International Achievement. The College of Business Alumni Association gives Outstanding Teaching Awards each year at its Spring Luncheon in Chicago. The 2003 recipients were also acknowledged at the College ceremony in April. The Excellence in Teaching Award for a graduate class was given to David Lins, who has been teaching courses in finance since 1991. The Excellence in Teaching Award for an undergraduate class was awarded to Stephen D'Arcy, also in finance, who has been previously recognized with teaching honors from the Commerce Council. Jannet Chang earned the Excellence in Teaching Award for TAs for her instruction of Econ 172 sections. Service to the CollegeDean Ghosh also acknowledge staff with ten or more years of service to the College of Business. Honored for three decades of service: Greg Oldham, professor of business administration, and Carol Nelson, administrative aide. Honored for 25 years of service: Clif Brown, professor of accountancy and director of professional programs; John Chandler, associate professor of accountancy and director of the master's program; John Kindt, professor in business administration; and Larry Johnson, assistant dean for undergraduate affairs. For two decades of service: Paul Beck, professor of accountancy; Ira Solomon, professor of accountancy and head of the department; Richard Engelbrecht-Wiggans, professor of business administration; Anil Bera, professor of economics; and Roger Koenker, professor of economics. Acknowledged for 15 years of service: Joe Mahoney, associate professor of business administration; Lee Alston, professor of economics; Anne Villamil, professor of economics; Nicholas Yannelis, professor of economics; Louis Chan, professor of finance; Charles Kahn, professor of economics; Virginia France, associate professor of finance; Cindy Wood, administrative secretary in accountancy; Barb Esworthy, staff secretary in business administration; and Gail Trent, secretary in business administration. Honored for a decade of service to the College: Tom Finnegan, lecturer and director of undergraduate programs in accountancy; Tom Sternburg, lecturer and director of the MSTax program in accountancy; Ruth Yontz, teaching associate in finance; Elisabeth Oltheten, assistant professor of finance; N. Jegadeesh, professor of finance; Jane White, associate director in the EMBA Program; Alice Althaus, secretary in the office of business career services; and Donna Hinrichs, administrative secretary in the office of development and alumni affairs. --Ashleigh
