May 6, 2003 Faculty Frequently Cited For Gambling ResearchThe current fiscal challenges faced by states has officials searching for new or enhanced sources of revenue. For some states, legalized gambling is a possible new pool of dollars that does not involve a new tax. Two University of Illinois faculty members -- Professor of Economics Earl Grinols and Professor of Business Administration John Kindt -- are frequently contacted about gambling revenues and about the costs of legalized gambling in the form of slot machines and tracks. Recently Grinols was interviewed by the Associated Press, which resulted in several articles in newspapers around the country:
