Alumnus Appointed to National Post in Columbia

Colombia's new finance minister, Alberto Carrasquilla, is a graduate of the College of Business. Carrasquilla received two degrees in economics: an MS in 1984 and a PhD in 1989. He took office June 20, 2003.

Carrasquilla indicated in an interview with Agence France Presse early this month that he would continue the market-minded policies of his predecessor. The Bogota-born Carrasquilla, named to his post by President Alvaro Uribeis, is seen as a firm believer in free markets.

He also trained at the Universidad de los Andes.
