Sharon Shavitt Designated IBE Distinguished Professor
Sharon
Shavitt, professor of business administration, was announced in October as the
newest Investors in Business Education (IBE) Distinguished Professor by College
of Business Dean Avijit Ghosh.
In making his announcement, Dean Ghosh noted that "Sharon has brought great distinction to the College through her research in marketing and is recognized as one of the intellectual leaders in her field."
Shavitts research focuses on the cross-cultural factors affecting consumer persuasion, attitudinal and value judgments, and survey responding. She also researches the impact of motivational and contextual factors on evaluative processes and the determinants of public attitudes toward advertising. Professor Shavitt teaches courses on marketing communications and on survey methodology.
In addition to her appointment in the Department of Business Administration, she is a professor in Psychology and in the Institute of Communications Research on the Urbana campus and a research professor in the Survey Research Laboratory, a unit of the University of Illinois at Chicago.
College guidelines call for such appointments to be made to a faculty member with a record of significant and distinguished contributions and clear prospects of continuing at that level. Generally faculty honored by the designation demonstrate excellence in scholarly and professional accomplishments; teaching and instructional innovations; or leadership in academic and professional organizations.
The Investors in Business Education is an unrestricted fund that, in addition to the IBE Distinguished Professorships, underwrites scholarships, fellowships, and faculty and curriculum awards.
