At the 24th International American Marketing Association Collegiate Conference held in Orlando, Florida, in late April, the University of Illinois campus chapter was awarded a plaque for outstanding membership activities in 2001-2002. The award is presented those collegiate chapters that effectively presented and analyzed their total chapter membership mix over the application planning period. Chapters receiving this award had outstanding strategies and planned activities for member recruitment and retention, and member involvement in chapter activities. The awards were made based on the chapter plan and the annual report written by the chapter president.
Four students from the Illinois chapter traveled to Orlando to accept the award: Amanda Brenner, chapter president; Scott Slattery, VP for communications; Susan Miller, awards chair; and Lydia Wellner, VP for marketing and public relations chair.
Most of the funding for the students' trip came from the campus Student Organization Resource Fee (SORF), which supports the programs and activities of an organization. A generous donation from Goodyear also provided for the trip. In addition, AMA chapter members planned several fundraisers during the academic year.
