Public Transportation
We are in a location that is very accessible by public transportation.
You can hail a cab or water bus right outside the building, you
can travel by CTA “El” train, or by CTA bus. Union
station is located just across the river from the Illini Center
where you can find the Metra or Amtrak trains. Theses trains serve
the Chicago suburbs. Additional information is provided below.
http:://www.transitchicago.com – Getting around Chicago is simple and quick, thanks to buses and the "El," a system of elevated trains operated 24 hours a day by the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA; 312/836-7000). Pick up a CTA System Map, available at most subway stations and visitor centers. Buses run every five to fifteen minutes during rush hours and every eight to twenty minutes at most other times. Rapid transit trains run every five to fifteen minutes during the day and every fifteen to sixty minutes all night.
The CTA no longer accepts tokens; instead, riders purchase a transit card (available in all El stations) and add value to it. One ride costs $2.00. If you plan to be on the move, passes good for one ($5), two ($9), three ($12) or five ($18) days of unlimited rides might be a good idea.
Chicago's taxis can be hailed anytime in the Loop and other central neighborhoods; otherwise call Yellow (312/829-4222) or Checker taxis (312/243-2537).
A River Bus (April-Oct; $3 one way, $4 round; 312/337-1446) operates on the river during rush hour in summer, running from the Madison and Canal to Michigan Avenue. See www.wendellariverbus.com for rates.
The Metra or Metropolitan Railroad operates 12 surface train lines serving the six-county area which hub into downtown Chicago from the outlying Chicago suburbs. Visitwww.metrarail.com or call Metra Passenger Services at 312-322-6777.
Amtrak is a national rail train service serving Chicago and most of the continental United States. Trains depart primarily from the two major Chicago train stations, Union Station and Northwestern Station (Ogilvie Transportation Center). Located at the intersection of Madison and Canal.
