The MS Tax Program’s Convocation Ceremony for its 6th graduating class was held on May 1, 2011 at the University Club of Chicago. The 30 students graduating received a Masters of Science in Taxation (MST) degree. Over 170 guests were in attendance for the celebration, including family members from as far away as Ireland.
The commencement address was given by The Honorable Wayne R. Andersen, Judge of the United States District Court (Retired). While acknowledging that practicing taxes often means focusing on mechanics, money and the bottom line, the judge advised the graduates to rise above those and to think about the bottom lines in their own lives. He encouraged them to live by the following principles -- self-control, gentleness, faithfulness, generosity, kindness, patience, peace, joy and love – and, in so doing, their education would be well worthwhile.
Other speakers included Dr. Larry DeBrock, Dean of the College of Business and Michael McMaster of the Class of 2011.
