The Commerce Alumni Association Board of Directors elected a new president and vice president at its meeting in May. Howard S. Engle, a tax partner with the Chicago office of Arthur Andersen, was elected president. Thomas H. Cartwright, executive vice president, chief financial officer, and secretary of Banc One Illinois Corporation was elected vice president.
Out going president John Rozinsky, served ably for the last two years. The board and all alumni owe him a debt of gratitude for his dedication and devotion.

A visiting lecturer in accountancy at the UIUC, Howard team teaches a graduate course in international tax. He is also an adjunct associate professor of accountancy at DePaul. A frequent speaker on international taxation, he has addressed the Annual Federal Tax Conference and the World Trade Institute, to name only two. He is also editor of the "International Developments" column for the Journal of Corporate Taxation and a member of the editorial advisory board of The Tax Advisor. He has also authored numerous articles on international tax issues.
Howard received a B.S. in Accountancy from the University of Illinois and an M.S. in taxation from DePaul. While at Illinois he was a James Scholar, a member of Beta Alpha Psi and Phi Eta Sigma, and was elected an Outstanding Commerce Student. He is a CPA and a member of the American Illinois Societies of Certified Public Accountants.
A trustee of the Arthur Andersen Foundation, Howard also serves on the UIUC Business Advisory Council and UIUC Department of Accountancy Professional Advisory Board. Howard has been an active member of the alumni board for about ten years. During that time he has served in many important positions including chair of the Finance Committee and Program Committee. He has been vice president for the past two years.
Howard and his wife Debbie live in Highland Park with their two sons, one of whom is entering his junior year at the University of Illinois.

Tom received a B.S. (1975) and M.S. (1977) in finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is also a graduate of the school of Retail Bank Management, University of Virginia.
Tom is a member of the Financial Management Association and the College of Commerce Business Advisory Council. He has also served on the Commerce Alumni Board of Directors for many years. He has chaired the Homecoming and Graduation Committees each year of his tenure.
Tom and his wife Mary live in Springfield with their two daughters.
