Andrew J. Bailey, who was listed as one of the "100 Most Influential People in Accounting" in the March 14, 1994, issue of Accounting Today, will join the department in January as head and the Ernst & Young Professor of Accountancy. A native Minnesotan, Bailey earned a bachelor's and master's in accounting at the University of Minnesota, and a Ph.D. (1971) in accounting from Ohio State. In addition to his academic degrees he is a CPA, CMA, CIA, and CFE. He earned honors for each of the certificate exams, including the National Gold Medal (1977) for the CMA Examination.

During his extremely active career, Bailey has taught at several universities, including Minnesota and Arizona, where he was head of the department. Abroad, he has taught in Australia and New Zealand. He has also spent time in the profession, about a year and a half as an auditor with Touche Ross & Co. Within the profession, Bailey has served in many organizations. This year he is president of the American Accounting Association. In past year she has held other posts, including chair of the Audit Section of the AAA and co-editor of Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory. Also an active scholar, Bailey is widely published in major journals in the field, including The Journal of Accounting Research, The Accounting Review, The Journal of Information Systems, Management Accounting, Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory. Areas of research include auditing and statistics, auditing in a computerized environment, and accounting and auditing standard-setting and regulation.
