Robert Penington, MBA Student
Robert Penington always knew that he wanted to earn an MBA, but he came to the program by following an unusual path.
During a decade of work in biomedical research, Penington applied his undergraduate degree in cell and structural biology and his MS in biomedical science. His belief in the disconnect between scientists and business professionals in the biotech industry inspired him to better understand how these disciplines intersect.
Now a second-year student pursuing concentrations in finance and marketing, Penington chose the Illinois MBA for its compelling program offerings and academic rigor. The integrated first-year curriculum provided him with the solid educational foundation he needed to make the transition from other disciplines to business.
Penington holds an extended internship at the Office of Technology Management on campus. He's using skills gained in the MBA classroom and his knowledge of biomedical science to evaluate University technology for potential commercial applications.
