David Gilmartin, Finance Alumnus
General Counsel, Vice President & Secretary, Richardson Electronics, Ltd.
You never know where you’ll run into fellow College alumni – at the top of a cathedral in Florence, Italy, perhaps?
David Gilmartin was delightfully surprised to rub elbows with a former classmate in the most unexpected of places.
“In the late 1980's I was on vacation in Italy and literally ran into an Alpha Kappa Psi colleague at the top of the Duomo overlooking Florence,” says David Gilmartin. “Since then, we continue to look for ways to do business together.”
It’s not surprising, considering his involvement on campus and in Illinois alumni organizations. He is past president of the College of Business Alumni Association, a Board Member since 1994, and is regularly involved in College alumni activities.
Gilmartin graduated with High Honors with a finance degree and was a Top Ten Senior, a member of Alpha Kappa Psi as well as the Business Council. He went on to obtain his law degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 1988.
He began his law career in private practice in Chicago and then moved on to providing in-house corporate counsel for companies in the foodservice, insurance, and technology fields. He now serves as General Counsel, Vice President and Secretary for Richardson Electronics, Ltd, a global provider of engineered solutions serving a variety of industries.
He also works with Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation which provides pro bono legal services in Chicago, and served as its President of the Board from 1999-2001.
The almost 50,000 alumni of the College of Business are leaders of companies and organizations around the globe. These loyal Illini form a network of professional and personal contacts for current students and fellow graduates. The College regularly brings alumni and students together for professional development and social gatherings on and off campus.
