Julia Shapland
Lecturer of Accountancy
Julia Shapland is a lecturer in accountancy at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. Julie is a certified public accountant and holds a B.S. in accountancy from the University of Kentucky and an M.S. in tax accountancy from the University of Illinois. Julie has been teaching college level accounting courses on a full time basis for the last eleven years. Her teaching career started at the University of Illinois but also includes four years working as tenured faculty at Parkland College. Her teaching interests include federal income taxation, financial and managerial accounting, accounting information systems and business ethics. She is currently teaching the second semester introductory accounting course taken by all business majors at the University of Illinois. Over her teaching career, she has been honored to be included on the University of Illinois' "Incomplete List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent."
In addition to teaching, Julie serves on the finance committee for the United Way of Champaign County and is the director of the accountancy internship program at the University of Illinois.
Prior to teaching, Julie worked as a tax manager for Olive, LLP, where she primarily served closely held businesses in the commercial and financial services industries. She worked as a senior acquisition coordinator for McDonald's Corporation in Oakbrook, Illinois, and as a senior auditor for KPMG Peat Marwick in Chicago, where she gained valuable business experience in the manufacturing and distrubition industries.
