Janet Bercovitz
Associate Professor of Business Administration
Janet Bercovitz is an assistant professor in the Department of Business Administration. She holds a B.S. degree in chemistry, and MBA, and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. Professor Bercovitz’s primary research interest is in the economics of organization with a focus on organizational structure and contractual relationships. Current projects explore the organization of university-industry technology transfer, the relationship-contract link in sponsored research projects and the structure of business-format franchise agreements. Her articles appear in journals such as Management Science, Strategic Management Journal (forthcoming), Journal of Industrial Ecology, and the Journal of Technology Transfer.
Professor Bercovitz teaches business courses in both entrepreneurship and strategy at the undergraduate, graduate and executive level. Before attending graduate school, She worked as a chemist for American Pharmaseal, a division of Baxter Travenol, and as a market analyst and consultant for Technology Forecasters. After receiving her Ph.D., she taught in the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University before joining the UIUC in 2004.
