Avijit Ghosh received his bachelors degree in Chemistry from Calcutta University. His master's and doctoral degrees -- both in geography -- are from the University of Iowa. The author or co-author of numerous articles on marketing strategy, retail location, franchising, and brand choice, he also holds an MBA from Xavier Institute in India. He received the Stern School's Excellence in Teaching Award. Before being appointed Dean, he was vice dean at the Stern School of Business at New York University. The Langone Professor of Business, he served as director of the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at Stern from 1991-1994. Under his direction, the center made entrepreneurship education an integral part of the school's agenda. He was appointed vice dean in 1995 with responsibility for full- and part-time MBA programs and executive education. In 1998-1999 he was the deputy dean at Stern.
