Alumni Resource Guide

No one knows the value of a University of Illinois College of Business degree like an alum. And, just as generations of Illinois graduates contributed to your Illinois experience, there are many ways for you to give back to the college. This guide was developed to help you navigate the many options available to alumni in Illinois and beyond.

Help the next generation of graduates

• Give back through your time
  • Help students explore majors and career paths
    1. Job Shadow Program during Winter Break - Registration Sept. & Oct.
       • Employer Guide
       • Job Shadow Timeline
       • Post Job Shadow on I-Link
    2. Mentoring Program
    3. Employer forum/workshop series (schedule varies each semester) email hirebusiness@illinois.edu to learn more
    4. Contribute to career videos or blogs


• Recruit/hire future Illinois graduates
  • Post internships and full time jobs
    1. Email your job posting to hirebusiness@illinois.edu
    2. Forward relevant entry level job postings currently open with your company
    3. For job postings for experienced candidates contact The Alumni Career Center to post the jobs
  • Participate in career fairs
    1. Fall Career Fair in September. Spring Career Fair in January. To register email hirebusiness@illinois.edu.
    2. If your company actively recruits at Illinois then join the recruiting team and come back on campus
  • Introduce your company recruiters to Career Services
    1. Encourage your HR Recruiting team to recruit at Illinois
  • Develop internships for students
    1. Encourage your department to have a summer internship program
    2. The best internships are project based with a structured mentored environment
    3. Recruit for the internship at Illinois the same way you would post a job opening.


• Network with students, staff and faculty
  • Speak at student organization programs

  • Join LinkedIn groups - As an alumni, LinkedIn is the best place to connect and rediscover former classmates, faculty, and current students

    4. If you are not familiar with Linkedin check out this blog.  This will help you understand Linkedin as a social networking tool and guide you through developing a profile

    1. Outside of the formal mentor program, invite students to visit your office for a company visit or informational interview
