Unique Pathways for the Academic Endeavor: An Interactive, Interdisciplinary Workshop on Cultivating Academic Entrepreneurship

POSTPONED TILL FALL 2012

Deadline: Priority will be given to applications received by March 30th.

This unique interactive forum for University of Illinois faculty focuses on the process and benefits of being entrepreneurial in the academic profession. In an era of dwindling resources and associated challenges, this workshop will focus on how the platform of a great public university can be used to seek entrepreneurial pathways in one's career. Through interactive sessions with break-out small group discussions and presentations, the workshop will aim to foster a mindset of converting challenges into opportunities and revitalizing and fueling our academic passions through practical means. As structured, the workshop will provide a forum for meeting and connecting with academic peers from across campus. Some themes we anticipate to play a central role include pursuing big ideas, deepening engagement with different audiences, and exercising our power to choose roads to travel.

The workshop is framed for individual faculty rather than toward larger units such as centers, and the number of participants will be limited. The format will involve brief presentations of examples as a way to stimulate discussion in small groups. The facilitators are faculty from across the campus, including the Colleges of Business, Education, Engineering, and Library and Information Science. Deliverables from the workshop will include a personal vision and a practical plan to fulfill this vision. Faculty participants will receive a $250 honorarium. Priority will be given to applications received by March 30th, 2012.
