In 1980, with a $3,000 loan from an insurance policy, she founded The Pampered Chef® in the basement of her suburban-Chicago home. The company has grown into an international corporation serving 12 million customers annually. Doris Christopher is the author of The Pampered Chef®: The Story of One of America’s Most Beloved Companies (Doubleday, 2005) and Come To The Table: a Celebration of Family Life (Warner Books, 1999). In 2006, Christopher was named a lifetime member of the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, one of the numerous honors she has received. An active volunteer, she serves on the boards of numerous organizations including America’s Second Harvest and the University of Illinois Foundation.
