Jawed Karim Jawed Karim is a co-founder of the video sharing phenomenon, YouTube, a website for users to upload and share videos. He served as YouTube’s advisor and received a multi-million dollar buyout when Google purchased YouTube in 2006. Karim began his college career at the University at Illinois but dropped out in 2000 to pursue a career at PayPal, where he developed technologies including the real-time anti-fraud system. Karim returned to the University of Illinois to finish his B.S. in computer science. In 2007, Karim returned to his alma mater and gave the commencement speech at the graduation ceremony. He is the youngest speaker in the history of the University of Illinois. Karim’s most recent project, Youniversity, was founded to help entrepreneurial students develop business ideas. Karim shared with The New York Times that he plans to become a professor and wants to continue, as an entrepreneur, to influence how people use the Internet. With the invention of PayPal and YouTube, Karim has revolutionized the online world. |
