William Campfield Minority Student Award
The William Campfield Minority Student Award was established in memory of William Campfield, the first minority PhD graduate in accounting from the University of Illinois and in the United States. Dr. Campfield received his PhD in 1951. He worked for the General Accounting Office in Washington, D.C. and also served as controller for Johnson C. Smith University and Southern University. He returned to the University of Illinois as a visiting professor in 1969. He served in this capacity at other universities including Rutgers University, Tuskegee Institute and Ohio State University. Between 1953 and 1970 he published eleven sole-authored articles in the Accounting Review, making him one of the leading accounting researchers of the period.
