Victor L. Bernard Memorial Award
Friends and colleagues established The Victor L. Bernard Memorial Award
to honor Professor Bernard. Victor L. Bernard started his distinguished
accounting career by earning his BS in Business Administration from Ohio
State University in 1975. He then earned his MAS and Ph.D. degrees from
the University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign in 1976 and 1982 respectively.
Vic began teaching at Illinois Wesleyan University as an instructor from
1976-1977. Then he worked for Arthur Young and Company as an auditor in
1975, 1977-1978. He returned to the University of Illinois as a lecturer
in 1982 and then he taught at the University of Michigan as an Assistant
Professor from 1982-1986. He was a Visiting Professor at the University
of Chicago from 1985-1986. He taught at the University of Michigan as an
Associate Professor from 1986-1988. Vic was the Marvin Bower Visiting Fellow
at Harvard University in 1990-1991. He returned to the University of Michigan
as a full Professor from 1988 until his premature death.
The Victor L. Bernard Memorial Award recognizes promising students
in the University of Illinois' Accounting Ph.D. program. For more
