Graduate Credit Prerequisites
Graduate internship credit is open only to accountancy majors enrolled in the departments integrated bachelor/master program or students with graduate standing in accountancy; who have previously completed the 300-level accountancy courses appropriate to internship learning plan (see below); and consent of department.
Students who have been admitted to either/both Stages I and II of the BS/Master program are able to take the internship for graduate credit assuming they have completed the appropriate 300 level accountancy course (or equivalent) which are as follows:
- Internships focusing on Accounting Measurement and Disclosure--You MUST have completed Accy 303 (or equivalent) AND have been accepted into the Accountancy bachelor/master program
- Internships focusing on Accounting Control System-- You MUST have completed Accy 304 (or equivalent) AND have been accepted into the Accountancy bachelor/master program
- Internships focusing on Taxation-- You MUST have completed Accy 312 (or equivalent) AND have been accepted in to the Accountancy bachelor/master program
At Stage I of the BS/Master program, students have completed 90 hours including Accy 304. If a student in Stage I of the BS/Master program wishes to take the internship for graduate credit, he/she may do so but doing so will count against the number of courses that the student may transfer from hours to units (for graduate credit). That maximum is 8 hours. Thus, if a student in Stage I of the Bachelor/Master program were to take the internship for graduate credit for 4 hours, only one other course could be transferred from hours (4 hours to graduate credit).
At Stage II of the BS/Master program, the student has completed 120 hours including Accy 405. When in Stage II, the student pays graduate tuition (for at least 2 semesters) and is eligible to take the internship for graduate credit (up to 4 hours).
Full-time employment of a permanent nature does NOT qualify as an internship. This prevents students from accepting a permanent job and using the internship credit as a mechanism to finish up a degree while off campus.
* International students who are working in the United States on a student visa need to meet with an advisor at ISSS (333-1303) before considering ANY form of off-campus employment.
Zero Credit Prerequisites
The accounting internship program is only available to declared accounting majors who are working in an accounting related internship. For further details please click here.
