Project Discovery Archive
The Project Discovery curriculum was fully implemented at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign during the 1997-98 academic year. This curriculum emphasizes active learning through numerous problem-solving exercises (e.g., cases, group exercises, projects, and simulations) combined with a conceptual understanding of accounting. Very different than the traditional accounting curriculum, the Project Discovery curriculum consists of conceptually oriented core courses in accounting measurement and disclosure, accounting control systems, decision making, accounting institutions and regulation, and attestation and assurance. A unique aspect of the curriculum is the introduction of a professional development workshop to deliver essential skills on a just-in-time basis to support the other core courses. Recent CPA exam performance of the Project Discovery students indicates continued success on that dimension. This site contains program development information including documentation for implementation, annual reports, and news articles regarding Project Discovery.
